One Thing I Hate
I HATE to be average.
The thought of being "average" at just about anything is nearly enough to make me sick!
Of course, I LOVE to be in the top 5% in everything I do. However, often I’m not. And, even in the areas where I am in the top levels, I certainly didn’t start out that way.
I know this will sound odd to most people…but I would rather be truly lousy at something than to be average.
Why?
Because when I’m truly lousy, I know that I’m in a tough arena…one that will challenge me…and eventually cause my skills to increase!
If I find myself in a situation where I am in the middle of the pack — average — I’d prefer to move up to a tougher group!
I’d much rather be the worst in a highly skilled group than a top performer in a mediocre group!
I’ve done this in many different areas in my life: academics, athletics; and, of course, running my business.
My advice? Whenever possible, run with the big dogs!
P.S. Of course, this method is also supported by one of my key, fundamental beliefs (one, incidentally, I hope you will adopt as your own):
I Believe That I Will Eventually Rise to the
TOP of Any Group I Join!
